About Frosts
Established
in the 1930's, Frosts of Clerkenwell is one of the very few
remaining clock and watch shops in the historic clock-making
centre of London Clerkenwell. We are a traditional clock and
watch shop offering a level of personal service and craftsmanship
that is rare today. Frosts handles the finest quality timepieces
produced in Europe & America. Because each piece is unique,
there is a clock to suit any purse and location. Prices range
from £200 to £10,000 for clocks and watches from every era.
From a 16th century lantern clock to a 19th century bracket clock
and from a 19th century English pocket watch to a 1900's Rolex,
the quality all have in common is their excellent condition. Each
is in full working order having been restored to it's original
state by our craftsmen.
All services to clocks and watches are done in our own up to date
workshops on our premises at Clerkenwell.

All strike levers are checked for any wear, if any wear is found this must be filed out, so that all levers move and tilt smoothly.
The weight driven clocks will have the gut line, if they are chain fusees, these are cleaned and oiled. Due to the quality of these clocks, I would not expect to find any broken teeth, if there are any then a new tooth would be cut into the existing wheel. Any burrs will be removed by a fine grade file, then several ever finer grades of emery paper, they are then polished. All parts, which are made of steel, are polished by hand to a mirror finish. Both plates of the movement are bushed with new brass or bushes replaced. The centre of the bus his broached out by hand, so that the newly polished pivots turn freely without any sideways movement. Each wheel should spin perfectly coming to a stop in it’s own time.
